California To Raise Minimum Wages For Health Care Workers

On October 13, 2023, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation, Senate Bill (SB) 525 to raise minimum wages over 10 years for the state’s health care workers. The legislation modifies the state’s existing minimum wage of $15.50 (as of January 1, 2023) to establish five separate minimum wage schedules for covered health care employees, depending on the nature of the employer. For non-health care employment, the minimum wage will rise to $16 per hour on January 1, 2024. Rules to implement SB 525 will be developed by the California Department of Industrial Relations.
