California’s I/DD Regional Centers Must Make Records Public To Consumers & Guardians Under New State Law

California’s 21 non-profit regional centers that oversee services for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) will be subject to the state’s Public Records Act starting January 1, 2026. The requirement pertains to access to records regarding an applicant for, or recipient of, services to be provided, upon request, to the applicant, recipient, or their authorized representative, as specified, unless expressly prohibited by law.
