California’s San Mateo County To Launch Innovative County-Funded Social Services, Receives 315 Applications, But Can Only Fund 14% Of Them

San Mateo County, California is planning to launch a slate of social services in three priority areas to be funded by $35 million from a county-specific funding stream. County Executive Mike Callagy said the Board of Supervisors sought “bold, innovative” ideas for the three priority service areas: Children, Families, and Seniors; Emergency Preparedness; and Housing and Homelessness. In response to its notice of funding opportunity (NOFO 1531) that closed on January 5, 2024, the county received 315 applications requesting $750 million over three years.
