Cardiac Risk Factors Are Rising — But Many U.S. Adults Don’t Know They’re At Risk
The proportion of adults in the United States who have one or more of three cardiac risk factors (hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol) increased between 2013 and 2023, but many affected people are unaware of their risks, according to a recent study. The lack of awareness was highest among those with hypertension, particularly among younger adults ages 20 to 44. The researchers stated that policy efforts to address these gaps in awareness are needed to prevent future cardiovascular events.
