In late April 2019, two Catholic Charities organizations sued the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) over the terms of a state settlement that prevents faith-based foster care and adoption provider organizations from discriminating against potential foster and adoptive parents who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ).
