Chicago Homeless Encampment Outreach Helped 94% Find & Retain Housing
A 'housing first' program in Chicago to rapidly house people in a homeless encampment resulted in helping 94% of the participants find an apartment, and nearly 79% of participants remained housed. The program, called Accelerated Moving Events (AME), was operated by the city’s Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS). Of 238 encampment residents who attended an AME between November 2020 and May 2022, 224 secured housing and as of October 3, 2022, 187 remained housed.
DFSS is the lead coordinator for AMEs to house encampment residents, and works in collaboration with Chicago’s Continuum of Care, a network . . .
