Child Medicaid/CHIP Enrollment Drops By More Than 2 Million Nationwide; Indiana Reports Largest Decline At 19.8%
Child enrollment in Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in Indiana declined by 19.8% between January 2025 and April 2026, representing 174,016 fewer children, according to a recent analysis of enrollment trends. Nationwide, since January 2025, child Medicaid/CHIP enrollment has declined by more than 2 million. In all but one state, child Medicaid/CHIP enrollment declined. The outlier was Minnesota, with a 1.8% increase, representing 8,816 additional child enrollees.
