Childhood Neglect Linked Higher Risk Of Stroke, COPD, Cognitive Impairment & Depression
Children who experienced neglect are more likely to have adverse physical and mental health outcomes in adulthood. Adults who experienced childhood neglect are more likely to smoke and have low physical activity. They are also more likely to report having fair or poor health, experiencing stroke, or experiencing asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). They are more likely to report impairment in hearing, vision, or cognition; difficulty walking or climbing stairs, or difficulty bathing. They are more likely to report poor mental health and past month depression.
