Children were 69% less likely to be hospitalized after their families worked with a volunteer navigator to connect them with social service. Of a 1,300-participant study, 29 children who had in-person navigation were admitted to the hospital during the 12 months following enrollment, compared with 50 children that did not have in-person navigation. There was no change in risk of having an emergency department visit in either group: 236 children (37.1%) that received in-person navigation, versus 250 children (37.7%) that did not receive navigation.
