CMS Approves Delaware Medicaid Waiver To Use IMDs For Addiction Treatment
On August 5, 2019, the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) announced that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved the state’s Medicaid waiver amendment to use institutions of mental disease (IMDs) to use federal Medicaid funding for substance use disorder (SUD) addiction-related treatment. An IMD is an inpatient or residential behavioral health facility with more than 16 beds; normally, federal Medicaid will not provide matching funds for services provided in an IMD to adult beneficiaries.
