CMS Approves Virginia Medicaid Plan To Reimburse School-Based Services With Or Without An IEP
On September 25, 2023, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved Virginia’s plan to use Medicaid funds to reimburse for school-based services for students whether or not they have an individualized education program (IEP) plan, as well as adding additional covered categories of behavioral health provider organization types and a new behavioral health service that can be provided by the schools. Details about the expansion to school-based services were included in the state's Medicaid State Plan Amendment (SPA 21-0017). The approval is retroactive to July 1, 2022.
