CMS ACO Outcomes Data Identifies Highest-Performing ACOs

On February 21, 2014, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posted 2012 quality of care performance data for 141 Medicare accountable care organizations (ACOs): 23 Pioneer ACOs and 118 Shared Savings Program ACOs. The performance measures related to outcomes for patients with diabetes, while the fifth concerns heart disease. The performance measures are defined as:

Diabetes Measure 1: Percentage of patients ages 18 to 75 with diabetes mellitus who had hemoglobin  A1c control less than 8%.
Diabetes Measure 2: Percentage of patients ages 18 to 75 with diabetes mellitus who had a blood pressure less than 140/90 . . .
