CMS To Review Nursing Home Oversight Processes
On April 15, 2019, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) began a comprehensive review of its regulations, guidelines, internal structure, and processes related to safety and quality in nursing homes. The review is integral to a five-part plan to ensure the nursing home care is of the highest possible quality. For this effort, CMS is reviewing its organizational structure to enhance collaboration across the regional staff, and is exploring the possible use of Medicare claims data and associated adverse outcomes or indicators, including the use of artificial intelligence and text mining, to inform its nursing home survey . . .
