Connecticut Disability Rights Groups Call On Legislature To Close State DD Institutions By 2020

On January 15, 2015, Connecticut's designated advocacy and protection organization, the Connecticut Council on Developmental Disabilities (CCDD), launched The 2020 Campaign to encourage the governor and state legislature to close all six state institutions that house individuals with intellectual disabilities by 2020. The CCDD plan calls for the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to transition the more than 500 residents of the five regional centers and the Southbury Training Center to appropriate homes in integrated settings in the community. Savings generated by closing the institutions should be used to reduce the residential waiting list.
