Court Order Halts $10 Billion Federal Cut To Five States For Child Care & Support For Families
On January 9, 2026, a federal court issued a temporary restraining order preventing the Trump administration from implementing a plan announced on January 6 to freeze over $10 billion in critical funds to programs that support child care and other assistance to low-income families. The freeze, announced by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), affected access to federal child care and family assistance funds for California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, and New York.
