COVID-19 PHE Ending May 11; Special Health Insurance Marketplace Enrollment Period Starts March 31, 2023

On January 30, 2023, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) announced that the national coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) emergency, and the declared public health emergency (PHE) (which were slated to expire on March 1 and April 11, respectively) will both end on May 11, 2023. The end of the PHE triggers the end of federal flexibilities that waived or modified requirements affecting Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) plans, and private insurance plans.
