Dementia Mortality Rate In The U.S. Doubled Between 1999 & 2020
The Alzheimer’s disease and dementia mortality rate among adults age 35 and older in the United States doubled between 1999 and 2020, rising from 10.86 such deaths per 10,000 individuals in 1999 to 21.42 deaths per 10,000 individuals in 2020. Across the two-decade period, the age-adjusted mortality rate (AAMR) for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias was 17.46 per 10,000, and there were 6.6 million deaths.
