The most important workplace factor associated with success in competitive employment for adults with autism is the competence displayed by their direct managers, according to a survey of currently and recently employed adults with autism. About 49% of respondents reported disclosing their autism diagnosis to a direct manager or supervisor, while 44% disclosed to human resources. The survey analysis concluded that managers function as “the front line of inclusion, retention, and performance” for working adults with autism.
