DOJ Finds Arizona Child Welfare Discriminated Against Parents & Children With Disabilities
According to an investigation by the federal Department of Justice (DOJ), the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) has discriminated against parents and children with disabilities, denying them an equal chance to participate in and benefit from DCS programs and services. DCS failed to accommodate the needs of parents and children with hearing disabilities and failed to provide parents with disabilities with information in a simplified form.
The DOJ released its investigation findings on December 16, 2024. The problems included the following:
