DOJ Moves To End 16-Year Texas Civil Rights Case Against 13 State-Supported Living Centers For People With I/DD
The Department Of Justice (DOJ) joined Texas on December 9, 2025, in asking a federal district court to dismiss a long-running case resulting in reform for 13 facilities for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD).
“The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division brought to completion years of work that now requires Texas to protect the rights of Americans who are in its care at these centers,” an announcement stated. “Through a consent decree, Texas implemented reforms to protect residents from harm, provide clinical care and education, and provide services for people with I/DD in integrated settings . . .
