DOL Finalizes Rules For August Launch Of Association Health Plans For Small Businesses & Self-Employed

On June 19, 2018, the United States Department of Labor (DOL) Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) issued final rules for association health plans (AHPs) intended to allow small businesses and self-employed individuals to join groups across state lines in order to participate in a group health plan. The rules go into effect on August 20, 2018. AHPs can serve employers in a city, county, state, or a multi-state metropolitan area, or a particular industry nationwide.
