Dual-Eligible Older Adults With Dementia Averaged 15% More Days At Home With HCBS

Dually eligible older adults living with Alzheimer disease and related dementias (ADRD) who used Medicaid home- and community-based services (HCBS) averaged 15.5% more days at home each year than the overall population of Medicare-Medicaid dual-eligible beneficiaries with ADRD. HCBS users averaged 275.0 days at home annually, compared with 238.1 days for the overall study population. Days at home was defined as the number of days per year a person was alive and not receiving care in an emergency department, hospital, or nursing home.
