Due To Cost, Older Adults Fail To Fill Prescriptions Or Take Medication As Directed
In 2021 through 2022, 3. 3.4% of older adults did not take the medicines as prescribed and 3.6% of older adults did not fill a prescription due to cost. Among older adults, 82.7% have prescription drug coverage. Those without coverage were more likely to avoid filling prescriptions and more likely to stretch out the doses or otherwise take a medication differently than prescribed (cost-related non-adherence). This was twice as likely among older adults reporting fair or poor health or reporting a disability compared to those reporting excellent, very good, or good health, or without disabilities . . .
