At Delaware’s six hospital systems, paid emergency department visit claims covered by insurance ranged from an average cost of $133 for a mild severity visit covered by Medicare to $4,176 for a high severity visit covered by commercial insurance. The data was reported in the state’s new CostAware website, which went live on April 7, 2022. It presents paid claims data for 2019 for all commercial insurers, Medicare, and Medicaid. Commercial insurers paid more than Medicare Advantage or Medicaid for each emergency department severity level.
