Erie, Pennsylvania VAMC Starts Medical Foster Home Program For Veterans Who Require Nursing Home Level Care

The Veterans Affairs Medical Cener (VAMC) in Erie, Pennsylvania recently launched a Medical Foster Home (MFH) program, which provides an alternative living environment for veterans who require nursing home level care but prefer a private home. The Erie VAMC program joins the 158 MFH programs in operation as of January 2024 by VAMCs in 46 states and territories. The program's nationwide expansion was authorized by the Cleland Dole Act, passed in December 2022, which requires all 152 Department Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care Systems to offer a MFH program by the end of federal fiscal year 2026.
