A Medicare beneficiary at age 65 in 2025 is projected to have average health care costs in retirement totaling $172,500, based on enrollment in Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and Medicare Part D, according to a recent study. The estimate accounts for premiums, co-payments, and other out-of-pocket costs for medical care and prescription drugs. It does not include long-term care expenses. The estimate for 2025 rose 4% from 2024.
