The State of Maine has an autism insurance mandate covering interventions for children age five and younger; it is estimated that expanding the mandate to cover interventions for dependents up to age 21 would raise per member per month (PMPM) costs by approximately $1.48, or 0.4% of PMPM premium cost. Under the current mandate, applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy costs for children age five and younger are capped at $36,000 annually.
