FDA Grants First Approval For A Virtual Reality System To Treat Chronic Lower Back Pain
On November 16, 2021, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) granted first approval for a virtual reality (VR) system to treat chronic lower back pain. The system, EaseVRx, was developed by AppliedVR. It is a prescription-use immersive VR system that uses the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other behavioral therapy techniques to provide the user with skills to achieve relief and reduction in the interference of pain in daily activities.
