Federation Of State Medical Boards Adopts New Telemedicine Policy
On April 26, 2014, the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) announced it had approved updated telemedicine guidelines intended to help standardize telemedicine policies implemented by state medical boards. The updated guidelines state that health care professionals delivering care via telemedicine technologies must establish a credible patient-physician relationship. Standards of care that protect patients during in-person medical interactions apply equally to medical care delivered electronically. Health care professionals should adhere to well-established principles guiding privacy and security of records, informed consent, safe prescribing, and other key areas of medical practice.
