Feds Release First Regulations For Adult Protective Services

On May 7, 2024, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) within the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a final rule to establish the first federal regulations for adult protective services (APS) programs. The new regulations will take effect on June 7, 2024, and regulated entities have until May 8, 2028 to fully comply.

The new regulations are intended to improve consistency of APS across states to better support the national network that delivers APS to meet the needs of adults who experience, or are at risk of, maltreatment, or self-neglect. The final rule:
