Feds Set October 1, 2015 As New ICD-10 Implementation Date

On May 1, 2014, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced it planned to require the use of ICD-10 code sets as of October 1, 2015, which is the earliest allowed by the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014. The Protecting Access to Medicare Act, signed into law on April 1, 2014, stated that the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) could not adopt ICD-10 prior to October 1, 2015. CMS had been planning the transition for October 1, 2014.

CMS expects to issue an interim final rule in the near future . . .
