Florida DOC Cancels Wexford Health Sources Contract Over Inadequate Prison Mental Health Care Services

On April 19, 2017, the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) issued a 180 day notice to cancel its contract with Wexford Health Sources due to concerns about inadequate mental health care provided at the South Florida Reception Center in Doral. The action came after the DOC was given the findings of a review conducted earlier in the month by the Florida Correctional Medical Authority (CMA). According to statements by the DOC press secretary, Ashley Cook, “Secretary [Julie] Jones is absolutely outraged at Wexford’s lack of performance and delivery of services as detailed in the Correctional Medical Authority’s notification . . .
