Florida Establishes Certification Process For Recovery Residences

On June 10, 2015, Florida Governor Rick Scott signed legislation that establishes a process for the voluntary certification of recovery residences and recovery residence administrators. Recovery residences are also commonly known as "sober homes." Sober homes are alcohol- and drug-free living environments for individuals who are attempting to remain substance abuse free to recover from their addiction. While the certification process is voluntary for the sober homes, the legislation, CS/CS/House Bill (HB) 21, prohibits licensed substance abuse treatment providers from referring patients to sober homes that are not owned and operated by a licensed substance abuse treatment . . .
