Florida Health System Pays $5.5 Million HIPAA Settlement

On February 14, 2017, Memorial Healthcare System (MHS) in South Florida paid $5.5 million to settle potential violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Rules. In its agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), MHS agreed to implement a comprehensive corrective action plan.

Non-profit MHS operates six hospitals, an urgent care center, nursing facilities, and a variety of cardiac, cancer, vascular, pediatric, surgery, behavioral health, fitness, rehabilitation, and community health facilities throughout southern Florida.
