Supportive Housing Lowers Overall Health Care Expenditures Among Formerly Homeless Population

Formerly homeless people who were living in a supportive housing facility in Portland, Oregon between 2010 and 2014, had significantly lower Medicaid expenditures compared to the year before they entered housing. During the year before entering housing, the average per member per month Medicaid expenditure was $1,626. During the first year in housing, the PMPM Medicaid expenditure dropped by 55.3% to $899.
