Genetic Testing For Developmental Disabilities Underutilized For Children Enrolled In Medicaid
Despite available guidelines, genetic testing is underutilized in clinical practice for children covered by Medicaid with neurodevelopmental disabilities, according to a recent analysis. Researchers investigated how well established genetic testing recommendations were being followed for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or intellectual disability (ID) under the care of a pediatrician and covered by Medicaid or Children's Health Insurance Program insurance. The study analyzed information from 241,060 children between the ages of 7 and 17 years.Â
Among a control group of children without ASD and/or intellectual disability (ID), 29.4% received genetic testing.
