Georgia IDD & Behavioral Health Settlement Agreement Ends; Feds To Continue Oversight

On July 1, 2015, the terms of a 2010 settlement agreement between the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) and the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) expired, although DBHDD had not completely met all the terms of the agreement to move 750 people with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) out of the state hospitals. The DOJ will continue to monitor the state’s performance over the next year under a provision in the original agreement. DHBDD has submitted a plan to the DOJ on how it will work toward meeting the goals of the original agreement . . .
