Georgia Increases Funding To Address Backlog Of Nursing Home Complaint Investigations
On March 9, 2017, the Georgia legislature increased funding for Department of Community Health (DCH) nursing home surveyors to help the state reduce a backlog of complaints by nursing home residents. More than 180 complaints have been filed with DCH over the past two years, but have not been investigated. The backlog increased at the same time the vacancy rate rose for nurse surveyor jobs.
The agency is also lagging behind the average length of time for a regular nursing home inspection, which is every 12.9 months. Federal regulations require the regular inspections to take place within 15.9 . . .
