Georgia Launches ABLE Savings Accounts For Individuals With Disabilities

The State of Georgia has implemented an Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act program, named Georgia STABLE, for individuals with disabilities. The Georgia STABLE program is a tax-free savings program that allows families of residents with disabilities to save for long-term services and supports (LTSS), and other support needs, without losing eligibility for Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The program is available to those with disabilities who became disabled before age 26. The state has not projected how many eligible individuals are likely to open a Georgia STABLE account.
