Half Of Medicaid Spending In Fiscal Year 2019 Was For Managed Care Capitation Payments
During fiscal year (FY) 2019, half of Medicaid spending was for managed care capitation and premium assistance payments. Total Medicaid spending across the 50 states and District of Columbia for FY 2019 totaled more than $594 billion, and of that $299 billion (50.3%) was for managed care payments and premium assistance. Managed care and premium assistance includes comprehensive and limited-benefit managed care plans, primary care case management, employer-sponsored premium assistance programs, and Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly.
