Half Of Nursing Homes Meet Minimum Staffing Requirements Of New Final Rule
A review of nursing home staffing levels as of May 2024, after the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a final rule with mandatory minimum levels, found that about half of 14,413 nursing facilities were already meeting the staffing levels. The CMS rule calls for a minimum of 3.48 hours per resident day (HPRD) of nursing staff time, including at least 0.55 HPRD for registered nurses (RNs) and 2.45 HPRD for certified nurse assistants (CNAs).
