Health Care Added 22,000 Jobs In July As Overall U.S. Employment Declined

Health care employment increased by 22,000 jobs in July 2026 even as total U.S. nonfarm payroll employment declined by 23,000 jobs. Health care continued its upward employment trend, although hiring was below the sector's average monthly gain of 36,000 jobs during the previous 12 months.

Ambulatory health care services accounted for most of the health care employment increase, adding 18,000 jobs during July, or about 82% of the sector's total monthly gain. Employment in social assistance showed little change during the month. BLS did not identify other health care subsectors with significant employment . . .
