Health Care Providers Remain Unpaid For ICE & CBP Detainee Care Since October 2025

Health care provider organizations that delivered off-site medical, dental, and pharmacy care to people detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have not been paid for care provided on or after October 1, 2025. The payment disruption followed the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) termination of a more than 20-year agreement to process claims for detainee care. ICE subsequently contracted with Acentra Health to implement a replacement claims-processing system. ICE and CBP currently detain more than 65,000 people.
