Health Care Utilization Among Medicaid Expansion Adults Is Higher Than For Other Adults
In the 37 Medicaid expansion states and the District of Columbia, Medicaid beneficiaries covered through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expansion population used more health care services in 2021 than other Medicaid beneficiaries who were eligible due to low-income, according to recent analysis by KFF, a non-profit organization focused on health policy. The researchers said that in 2021, 33% of the expansion population had a chronic physical health condition, and 25% had a chronic behavioral health condition, which both could have been the cause of the higher utilization rate.
