HHS Announces $100 Million STREETS Initiative For Mental Health & Addiction Treatment Programs

The federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) are implementing a new approach to mental health and addiction treatment. An investment of $100 million has been announced for the new approach, which HHS has dubbed the Safety Through Recovery, Engagement, and Evidence-based Treatment and Supports (STREETS) Initiative.

HHS and SAMHSA said the STREETS Initiative will fund targeted outreach, psychiatric care, medical stabilization, and crisis intervention. People with addiction disorder who are experiencing homelessness will be connected to stable housing and services focused on long-term recovery and independence . . .
