Homelessness Decreased 3% Between 2024 & 2025
On a single night in January 2025, there were 745,652 homeless persons in the United States, representing a 3% decrease from 2024, when homelessness reached a record high. The overall decline of roughly 25,000 people was driven largely by a 3.9% drop in emergency shelter occupancy, accounting for 16,931 fewer people, and a 2.9% decline in the number of people in unsheltered locations, or 7,904 fewer individuals.
