I/DD HCBS Waiting Lists Increased 3.3% In 2021 To 497,000 & 80% Live In Five States

During 2021, the number of people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) on waiting lists to receive Medicaid home- and community-based services (HCBS) increased by 3.3% to reach 497,354 people nationwide, according to the most recent Case for Inclusion report. About 80.5% of those on Medicaid HCBS waiting lists live in Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. The majority, about two-thirds, lived in Texas.
