ICD-10 Goes Live October 1, 2014
On February 27, 2014, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reaffirmed that on October 1, 2014, the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-9 code sets used to report medical diagnoses and inpatient procedures will be replaced by ICD-10 code sets. The transition to ICD-10 is required for hospitals and health care entities covered by the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA). The code-set transition does not affect Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding for outpatient procedures and physician services.
