Illinois Begins Accepting Medicaid Applications For Low-Income Individuals 42 & Older, Regardless Of Immigration Status
On July 1, 2022, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) began accepting Medicaid applications from non-citizens ages 42 and up, regardless of their immigration status. The coverage is through the state-funded Health Benefits for Immigrant Adults (HBIA) program. Previously enrollment in the program was limited to people ages 55 and older. Maximum household income for eligibility is $18,754 annually per individual and $25,268 for a two-person household.
