Illinois Children’s Behavioral Health Transformation Initiative Recommends Blueprint For Improving Public Behavioral Health Care System

On February 24, 2023, Illinois announced a set of 21 recommendations to support the state's Children’s Behavioral Health Transformation Initiative (Transformation Initiative), which was developed to provide clear, consistent, and comprehensive guidance to families seeking behavioral or mental health services for children and adolescents.

Five goals of the Transformation Initiative include:

Adjust capacity so that there are enough needed services.
Streamline processes so that services can be easily accessed.
Intervene earlier so that acute crises can be prevented.
